Estimator (Passive Fire Protection)
Reports to: Sales and Marketing Director
Location: Head Office, Ware, Hertfordshire (office-based)
Department: Sales
Schedule: Full-time, 42.5 hours/week (Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 17:00, 30-minute unpaid lunch)
Contract: Permanent, with a 6-month probation period
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum
Overview
As an Estimator, you will play a vital role in the success and growth of our remedial team by accurately preparing quotes for remedial and small project works. Your work will directly impact the speed and efficiency of our quoting process, helping to reduce the backlog of “to be quoted” tasks and contributing to achieving our conversion rates and sales targets.
Purpose of the Role
Produce high-quality remedial and small works quotations at the best cost price while maintaining premium service standards and target margins.
Support the business goal of maintaining a conversion rate of at least 1:3 by ensuring competitive and accurate estimating.
Collaborate closely with account managers and the remedial delivery team to determine the optimal delivery model (direct workforce or subcontracted services).
Assist in the development and improvement of the estimation tools within HubSpot.
Key Responsibilities
Review existing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) reports to identify works requiring quotations, preparing either batch or individual quotes as needed.
Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates, ensuring alignment with margin targets and premium service standards.
Follow the company’s FORTH® process for estimation from validation through to final quotation.
Notify clients upon receipt of a quote request, ensuring communication that a quotation is in progress and will be delivered within 72 hours.
Complete quotations promptly and submit them to the account manager for approval and client distribution.
Gather and compare quotes from subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing while maintaining required margins.
Attend pre-start meetings and site visits as needed for project quantification and validation.
Support the sales team in achieving key performance indicators related to quote turnaround times and conversion rates.
About You
Must-Have Attributes
Experience in passive fire protection systems.
Strong IT literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Desirable Attributes
Previous experience preparing HVAC quotations.
Background in quick-turnaround projects.
Versatile skill set with ability to adapt to various tasks.
Hands-on experience from working “on the tools” in a construction or fire protection environment.
